On Saturday morning, Shandong Luneng host Shenzhen at the Dalian Pro Soccer Academy Base, in Group A of the Chinese Super League.
The league will be using the temporary format of two groups of eight teams, with games taking place in just two locations in the country, Dalian and Suzhou due to the ongoing world pandemic.
Shandong Luneng are in Group A and have made a mixed started to their new league campaign. However, they could move level on points with group leaders Jiangsu Suning with a victory in this clash.
Anyway back to those mixed results so far this season. Li Xiaopeng’s team have won two, drawn one and lost one of their four league matches so in the 2020 campaign. Last time out they recorded a highly creditable 1-0 win against Guangzhou Evergrande. The game saw under 2.5 goals scored for the third straight Shandong Luneng game in the Chinese top-flight.
Shenzhen have made a poor start to the new league season, picking up just three points from their opening four Super League outings. They find themselves sixth-place in the group table, mainly due to three consecutive league defeats against Shanghai Shenhua, Guangzhou Evergrande and last time out Henan Jianye.
Defensive problems have plagued Zhang Xiaorui’s team since last season, as they have now conceded at least two goals in ten of their previous 11 league outings. Their defensive problems this season have contributed to all four league games producing over 2.5 goals.
At the other end of the pitch, Cameroon striker John Mary has been in form, netting four goals in as many appearances in the Chinese top-flight.
These two teams have met just twice in the Chinese Super League, with Shandong Luneng recording a win and the other game finishing in a draw.
