Sunday bring us another mouthwatering prospect in Serie A with 6th placed Napoli playing host to 7th placed AC Milan in a straight shoot-out for a place in the top six with just two points separating the two sides before kick-off.
So far, Napoli have managed to hold onto 6th place and the last European spot in the Italian top flight but they have the likes of Sunday’s opponents, AC Milan, hot on their heels just waiting for the hosts to slip up, so this upcoming clash against AC Milan takes on additional importance here.
Napoli have won seven of their last eight matches overall in Serie A with their one bump in the road coming in the shape of a 2-0 defeat away from home at in-form Atalanta.
Although, four wins from their last five matches on home turf at their Stadio San Paolo which includes notable wins against Juventus and Roma, both by 2-1 margins, gives the hosts a decent chance of getting something out of this clash.
Onto AC Milan, and the visitors have undergone a complete (and most impressive) transformation since the Serie A season has resumed, winning four of their last five matches overall in the Italian top flight.
The visitors had headed into the three-month lockdown period on the back of just one win out of their five matches before the season was put on hold, and seemingly, their chances of achieving a top six finish had looked to have passed them by.
However, wins against Lecce 4-1, Roma 2-0, Lazio 3-0 (away) and most impressive of all, their midweek 4-2 victory at home over Juventus, has kick-started AC Milan’s previously ailing fortunes and they’re now very much part of the conversation as to who will be in the top six come the end of the season.
AC Milan also bring a decent looking sequence of results away from home into this encounter, having suffered just one defeat from their last seven matches on the road that includes wins at Cagliari, Brescia, Lecce and Lazio.
Before we get too carried away though, we must remember AC Milan will be up against a strong Napoli outfit who also carry a serious threat, so goals perhaps looks the best option here, especially with a place in the top six at stake for both teams.
