After having dropped out of the top six in La Liga following a worrying four-match losing streak, Friday’s hosts, Real Sociedad, have subsequently picked up four points from their last two matches and will prepare for this upcoming home clash against Granada as the fixtures continue to come thick and fast.
Defeats to Deportivo Alaves, Real Madrid, Celta Vigo and Getafe had threatened to undo all the good work that Real Sociedad have achieved throughout this season’s Spanish top flight campaign, but they’ve since bounced back with a 2-1 home win over Espanyol and followed that up with a solid point in a 1-1 draw at Levante.
It’s a testament to Real Sociedad’s impressive sequence of results beforehand as the hosts still only trail 6th placed Getafe by a slender two-point margin despite this recent string of defeats.
With just two defeats from their last eight matches at their Reale Arena, Real Sociedad still look a force to be reckoned with on home turf.
Onto Granada then, and the visitors have managed to collect just one win from their previous six matches which was achieved via a 2-0 win on the road at 16th placed Deportivo Alaves, but along with defeats at home to Villarreal and Eibar, Granada have also been involved in a number of draws of late.
Three draws from these last six matches have meant that Granada remain in their mid-table position of 10th place and six points adrift of 6th placed Getafe, so it’s a case of now or never for the visitors if they’re to keep their very slim hopes of a top six finish alive here.
Granada may feel they have a decent chance of upsetting the odds here too as they bring a five-match unbeaten run on their travels into this Friday evening clash which includes wins at Osasuna and Alaves, while also picking up points on the road at Levante, Real Betis and Leganes.
However, the fact still remains that it is just two wins from their previous 14 matches away from home for Granada and together with a poor record against Real Sociedad, this could be a tough outing for the visitors here.
Real Sociedad hold a good record against Granada as the hosts have won each of the last five meetings against Friday’s visitors, and they look set to continue this trend on Friday.
