Chelsea are coming off of a fantastic 2-1 win against Manchester City on Thursday night to hand Liverpool their first league title in 30 years. Now, Frank Lampard and his players are one step from the FA Cup semifinals.

Standing in Chelsea’s way of a final four date are Leicester City, who have their own dreams of silverware. The Foxes are flying high in the Premier League in third place and could cap off a great season with the FA Cup.

There has been nothing to split Leicester City and Chelsea apart this season in their Premier League fixtures. The clubs drew 1-1 at Stamford Bridge as Wilfried Ndid’s second-half goal cancelled out Mason Mount’s first-half strike.

Their match at the King Power Stadium saw the teams trade goals in a 2-2 draw. Antonio Rudiger opened the scoring for Chelsea but Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes and Ben Chilwell scored to give them the lead. Rudiger scored 19 minutes from time to share the points.

Lampard has no new injury issues heading into the FA Cup quarterfinal. He will be without Fikayo Tomori, Marco van Ginkel, and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Although Tammy Abraham is Chelsea’s top scorer (15 goals), Lampard could once again start Olivier Giroud who works harder for the team. Against Manchester City, Lampard played a very attacking side with Christian Pulisic and Mount both starting.

The pair were excellent with Pulisic being the real standout performer. He scored Chelsea’s opener and almost had a second had it not been for a mad scramble that led to Chelsea’s winning penalty.

Brendan Rodgers will be without two players for the fixture. Daniel Amartey and Ricardo Pereira will both miss the quarterfinal tie through their respective injuries.

Leicester City are unbeaten in their last six games against Chelsea. Despite the excellent record, the Foxes have won just once in those six games.

The two clubs met in the 2017-18 FA Cup with the fixture finishing 1-1 after 90 minutes. Chelsea’s Pedro – who has agreed to join Roma at the end of this season on a free transfer – scored a 105th minute goal to send the Blues through.

Sunday’s game should be another close, cagey fixture between Leicester City and Chelsea. Like their last three matches in the Premier League, Leicester City and Chelsea will finish in a draw. Extra-time and possibly penalties will be needed to decide which of the two clubs progress to the semifinals.
