Goals could be at premium in Slutsk/Zhodino clash

FK Slutsk vs Torpedo Zhodino - 06/06/2020

Goals could be at premium in Slutsk/Zhodino clash

Slutsk have remained in 5th place in the Belarus top flight following a disappointing sequence of four matches without a win in the Vysshaya Liga, so Saturday’s hosts will be eager to set the record straight when Torpedo Zhodino visit their Stadyen Haradski.

Recent defeats to Energetyk-BGU, BATE and FC Minsk have resulted in Slutsk losing ground on the teams above them and they now find themselves four points adrift of Saturday’s 3rd placed opponents, Torpedo Zhodino.

Therefore, a win on Saturday for Slutsk would see them move within striking distance of the top three of the Vysshaya Liga but results at home have been indifferent.

Wins against Slavia Mozyr and Belshina have been tempered by losses to Dinamo Brest and Energetyk-BGU while also picking up points in draws with Vitebsk and Rukh Brest (both 1-1 stalemates).

Given their inconsistent nature at home, the straight win markets should be avoided where Slutsk are concerned but the goals angle does appeal here as four of their previous six encounters against Torpedo Zhodino have ended under 2.5 goals.

Onto Torpedo Zhodino, and the visitors moved up into 3rd place on the Vysshaya Liga ladder thanks to a 2-1 home win over lowly Smolevichi last weekend in the Belarus top flight and having suffered just one defeat out of their last seven matches overall, the visitors look set to get something out of this upcoming trip to Slutsk.

Recent wins against Energetyk-BGU, FC Minsk, Gorodeya and Smolevichi have maintained Torpedo’s bid for at least a top three finish in this season’s campaign, but it’s worth noting that three of these four aforementioned victories were achieved on home turf at their Stadyen Tarpeda where they’ve won four of their six wins to date this term.

However, switch to results away from home and Torpedo have been less convincing on their travels as they’ve won, drawn and lost in equal measure (W2, D2, L2), while four of their six away matches so far in this season’s Vysshaya Liga campaign have also resulted in under 2.5 goals.

There’s every chance that this clash could end up all square in perhaps a 0-0 or 1-1 draw but even if there’s a winner, a low-scoring affair could unfold here this Saturday lunchtime.
