Can Dusseldorf fend off Hoffenheim?
2324

Fortuna Dusseldorf welcome Hoffenheim to the Esprit Arena on Saturday afternoon, with the hosts in need of some valuable points to steer clear of the bottom three.

Dusseldorf currently occupy the relegation playoff spot – two points ahead of second-bottom Werder Bremen and one point behind fifteenth-place Mainz.

Before being thrashed by Bayern Munich last weekend, Fortuna were on a three-game unbeaten run after returning from the break.

A goalless draw with Paderborn was followed by a 2-2 draw against FC Koln, before Uwe Rosler’s side came from behind to beat Schalke.

However, Dusseldorf’s run was brought to an abrupt end by a rampant Bayern side last time out. Rosler’s men only managed 33% possession and one shot on target at the Allianz Arena.

Fortuna are in desperate need of three points to move up the table, but they won’t come easy against an in-form Hoffenheim outfit.

Two wins and a draw have seen Hoffenheim jump from 9th to 7th since the Bundesliga season resumed – four point clear of eighth-place Freiburg and level on 42 points with sixth-place Wolfsburg.

Alfred Schreuder’s side returned with a heavy defeat to Hertha Berlin but have since turned things around. After drawing with Paderborn, Hoffenheim secured back-to-back wins over FC Koln and Mainz.

Hoffenheim don’t draw many games. In fact, only four teams below them in the table have fewer draws. Having said that, only the top five sides have won more games in 2019/20.

  • Fortuna Düsseldorf are unbeaten in 7 of their 8 most recent matches (all competitions)
  • Hoffenheim have managed to draw 3 of their last 4 away Bundesliga matches
  • Fortuna Düsseldorf have achieved a draw in 4 of their 6 most recent games in Bundesliga
  • Hoffenheim's performance has been disappointing of late, as they have won just 1 of their 6 most recent away all competitions clashes

Looking at the head-to-head record between the two teams, Fortuna and Hoffenheim have recorded three 1-1 draws in their previous five meetings. Both sides claimed a victory in the other two games.

Dusseldorf are still without on-loan Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen as he continues to recover from injury, while forward Dawid Kownacki is also sidelined for this hosts.

As for the visitors, Hoffenheim could be without as many as five first-team players this weekend with Ishak Belfodil, Andrej Kramaric, Sargis Adamyan, Florian Grillitsch, and Jacob Brunn Larsen all doubtful.

Ultimately, this is set to be a tight game. Both sides will be looking to avoid defeat, so we could be set for a close encounter here.

As much as Hoffenheim will want to win and boost their European hopes for next season, Fortuna are expected to put in a resilient performance.

Forebet predicts that both teams will score. However, this game is likely to end all square.
