Belarus Premier League side Rukh Brest will welcome Dinamo Brest to the Yunost Stadium on Sunday for the city derby. The hosts are in their first season in the Premier League and have impressed onlookers.
Rukh Brest sit in seventh place in the division having taken 14 points from 30 overall. They are two places and one point better off than their city rival Dinamo Brest, who sit in ninth place.
Dinamo Brest head into the fixture losers of four of their last six matches. That includes losses in their last two fixtures in the Premier League. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two Brest teams in the Premier League. It is an historic event and one both sides will aim to win.
Founded in just 2016, Rukh Brest have rapidly risen up the Belarus football pyramid. The club are just eight points off of league leaders BATE Borisov and could theoretically catch them in the race for the league title.
Even if Aleksandr Sednyov’s team do not catch BATE, the season can be looked at – so far – as an extreme success. Rukh Brest have posted a 3W-5D-2L record and recorded the second-lowest goals allowed total (six).
The team’s big problem is scoring as only eight goals have been tallied. It is the division’s worst goals scored record. The defence has kept them in games and allowed for nine of their 10 Premier League matches in 2020 to end with under 2.5 goals scored.
Dinamo Brest average 1.3 goals per game against Premier League rivals. Unfortunately for the club, they allow 1.3 goals per match as well. In contrast to Rukh Brest’s low-scoring games, Dinamo Brest have seen their last four Premier League fixtures end with over 2.5 goals tallied.
The good news for Dinamo Brest is Rukh’s poor scoring record. It is unlikely that the hosts will break out and score goals on Sunday. Rukh Brest have drawn at both half time and full-time in five of their last seven league matches. They do not have the killer instinct in front of goal.
Sunday’s derby should go down a similar route to Rukh Brest’s other matches this campaign. It should be low scoring with under 2.5 goals tallied. Although Dinamo are one point below Rukh, they should take the spoils in the team’s first league derby thanks to experience.
Dinamo should eke out a victory with under 2.5 goals scored as Rukh Brest are held to a clean sheet loss.
