Bottom-of-the-table Paderborn welcome Hoffenheim to the Benteler-Arena on Saturday as the Bundesliga enters its second round of fixtures following the league’s resumption.

Paderborn returned to action with a hard-fought goalless draw against fellow relegation-strugglers Fortuna Dusseldorf last weekend, despite only registering one shot on target.

It’s fair to say that Steffen Baumgart’s side – who enjoyed successive promotions in the past two seasons – have struggled to adapt to the demands of Germany’s top tier.

With just eight games remaining, Paderborn find themselves ten points from certain safety and six points behind Fortuna, who currently occupy the relegation play-off spot.

You won’t be surprised to learn that Paderborn have the second-worst defensive record in the division, although they have scored more goals than the two teams directly above them in the table.

Paderborn have failed to win any of their previous seven league games and have suffered five defeats during that time. However, draws with Schalke and Dusseldorf have kept them afloat – just about!

Meanwhile, Hoffenheim are ninth in the table. Before the break, Die Kraichgauer were without a win in five and extended that run to six games with a crushing defeat against Hertha Berlin last weekend.

Despite racking up 18 shots, Hoffenheim only managed to hit the target five times in their previous game, while their defensive efforts against Hertha left a great deal to be desired.

Alfred Schreuder’s side look destined for a disappointing mid-table finish this term, with European qualification and relegation – barring a monumental slip-up – both out of the picture.

However, on a brighter note for Hoffenheim, Paderborn have failed to beat them in each of their last five meetings. In fact, Hoffenheim have claimed four victories over Paderborn during that period without conceding a single goal.

Furthermore, Hoffenheim have suffered just two defeats in their last 11 away games. Home advantage often goes out the window when games are played behind closed doors, but this statistic will still fill Hoffenheim with confidence.

Looking at the injury news, Paderborn have no fresh concerns heading into this game. Meanwhile, Ishak Belfodil, Sargis Adamyan, Munas Dabbur, and Andrej Kramaric will all miss out for Hoffenheim.

Hoffenheim haven’t been in good form of late, but their superior head-to-head record over Paderborn suggests the away side will find a way to win on Saturday.

Forebet predicts that Hoffeinheim will keep yet another clean sheet against Paderborn on their way to victory.
