Friday’s hosts, Slavia Mozyr, will no doubt be keen to bounce back from last weekend’s 2-0 defeat away from home at Shakhtyor Soligorsk when they play host to Gorodeya at their Stadyen Junatsva, with both teams level on 11 points apiece.
After making a positive start to this new Belarus top flight campaign with two wins from their first three matches of the new season with victories picked up against BATE 2-1 at home and a 2-1 win on the road at Dinamo Brest, Slavia seem to have gone off the boil in subsequent matches.
Following the win at Dinamo Brest, Slavia have managed to collect just one further victory from their subsequent six league matches in the Vysshaya Liga which came in the shape of a 3-2 away win at Vitebsk.
Three defeats from these six matches include losses to Isloch Minsk, FC Minsk and Shakhtyor while also being held to draws with Rukh Brest and Torpedo Zhodino, both at home and both in 0-0 stalemates.
Having registered just 3 wins from their last 10 matches on home turf at their Stadyen Junatsva, the goals market may be the best option for this clash as 7 of Slavia Mozyr’s last 10 home matches have resulted in under 2.5 goals.
Gorodeya will also be heading into this Friday clash with Slavia Mozyr on the back of a defeat as they suffered a heavy 3-1 loss away from home at the hands of high-flying Torpedo Zhodino and they face another tricky outing on the road at Slavia too.
It’s now four league matches without a win in the Vysshaya Liga for Gorodeya who have previously lost 2-0 at home to BATE along with sharing points with both Rukh Brest and FC Minsk in 1-1 draws respectively.
Gorodeya had also produced early promise as they’d strung together a three-match winning streak which included victories over Belshina, Dinamo Minsk and Energetyk-BGU (all by 1-0 margins), but they too have struggled for results since.
Having also managed to pick up just two wins from their last seven matches on their travels in the Belarus top flight, an away win seems a bit of a stretch here but goals (or the lack of them) may be a good option here as 6 of Gorodeya’s last 7 away matches have also seen under 2.5 goals.
