Vitebsk the more likely for win at Belshina

Vitebsk the more likely for win at Belshina
2349

Basement dwellers, Belshina, suffered a third straight defeat on the trot in the Vysshaya Liga on the weekend when they were handed a 2-1 defeat away from home at high-flying Isloch Minsk, and although they return to more familiar surroundings for this upcoming clash against Vitebsk, the hosts look to have their work cut out here.

Previous back-to-back defeats to Slutsk 3-2 away and a 3-0 loss at home to Dinamo Brest had been bad enough but the loss to Isloch on the weekend has only further compounded their problems, and they duly sit bottom of the Vysshaya Liga with just 2 points to their name.

Draws with third from bottom club, Neman Grodno and second from bottom outfit, Smolevichi, have been the only semi-highlights for Belshina, while the bigger picture paints a bleak picture for the hosts as they’re without a win from their last 15 matches in the Belarus top flight.

Belshina have also failed to win any of their last 10 home matches too, so they look set to struggle once again on Sunday.

Vitebsk gained a point in the weekend’s action in the Vysshaya Liga with a 0-0 draw at home against Shakhtyor Soligorsk which meant that they avoided a third league defeat on the trot.

The visitors had previously suffered back-to-back defeats against Isloch Minsk and Slavia Mozyr which had resulted in Vitebsk dropping down the Belarus top flight standings to 10th place but they probably won’t get a better chance to bounce back with a win than this Sunday’s clash against bottom club, Belshina.

With just 2 defeats out of their last 6 matches overall which includes victories over Smolevichi 1-0 away from home and an impressive 1-0 home win against the current title-holders, Dinamo Brest, Vitebsk certainly look the more likely for the three points in this encounter.

Vitebsk will certainly be keen to turn things around especially away from home where they’ve managed to pick up just 1 win out of their last 6 matches on their travels, but having won the last three encounters on the trot against Belshina, Vitebsk look set for success here.

In addition, Belshina have the joint-worst goalscoring record at home in the division as well as the third worst defensive record, so Vitebsk may well pick up the points here and the visitors can be backed with the double chance handicap (2X).
