Slavia and BATE to serve up a few goals

Slavia Mozyr look to be up against it when they prepare for their Saturday clash against BATE despite holding home advantage at their Stadyen Junatsva as they suffered a heavy defeat in their opening match of last weekend’s Vysshaya Liga.

A 3-1 loss away from home against Slutsk isn’t an encouraging sign as they prepare for the visit of last season’s 2nd placed side, BATE, and although they finished last season with wins against Gomel, Isloch Minsk and Vitebsk, 2 of these 3 wins were against teams situated in the bottom four (Vitebsk and Gomel).

Surprisingly, it was Slavia’s poor results at home which prevented them from finishing any higher than a mid-table 8th place as they suffered 7 defeats on home turf at their Stadyen Junatsva with only relegated Gomel (8) and Tarpeda (13) losing more matches at home than them.

There could also be a few goals on show on Saturday too as each of Slavia’s last 4 matches in all competitions have resulted in over 2.5 goals.

The signs appear to be ominous then for Slavia as BATE finished runners-up to last season’s title winners, Dinamo Brest, but will no doubt be looking to go one step better this time around following last week’s disappointing 3-1 loss away from home at Energetyk-BSU.

BATE face another away trip this Saturday but will be hoping they can rekindle their earlier form from the end of last season’s campaign which saw the visitors claim 3 wins on the trot at the end of last season with wins over Vitebsk 2-1, Dinamo Minsk 3-0 and a 2-1 win at Torpedo Zhodino.

Having also lost just 1 of their last 8 matches on their travels in the Vysshaya Liga, BATE will be confident that they can bounce back with a win here and they grabbed the spoils in their last visit to Slavia with a 2-1 win last April.

Goals have also featured when BATE have hit the road as 10 of their last 16 matches away from home have been over 2.5 goals.

BATE won 2-1 in their last visit to Slavia and we see another similar scoreline unfold here this Saturday with 3 goals or more scored with BATE taking the honours.
