The 2019-20 Copa del Rey has been turned on its head as none of Spain’s big team are still in the tournament. CD Mirandes, Real Sociedad, Athletic Club, and Granada are the final four in the Copa del Rey.
Real Sociedad head to the Estadio Municipal de Anduva to play Segunda team CD Mirandes in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal. The visitors take a 2-1 lead into the second leg after a narrow victory in the first match.
Mikel Oyarzabal scored from the penalty spot in the ninth minute for Real Sociedad before CD Mirandes’ Matteus Rodrigues levelled the game in the 39th minute. On-loan Real Madrid player Martin Odegaard scored the winner just three minutes later to give Real Sociedad the win.
Real Sociedad coach Imanol Alguacil has led his team on a fantastic winning run in recent weeks. The Royal have won five straight matches in all competitions. Odegaard has been brilliant powering Real Sociedad in the league and cup.
Odegaard has scored seven goals and tallied eight assists in 26 matches in all competitions. The 21-year-old should be on his way back to Real Madrid to become a star next season after his brilliance in the Basque region this campaign.
CD Mirandes are winless in six straight games in all competitions. They are out of form but could spring a surprise on Real Sociedad. The Segunda club have put everything into the cup run and could pull off a shock win at home.
The Reds defeat some top teams to get to the Copa del Rey semifinals. Celta de Vigo, Sevilla, and Villarreal were all eliminated by CD Mirandes on their route to the semifinals. Can they keep it going against Real Sociedad?
Real Sociedad do have three injuries to contend with on Wednesday night. Diego Llorente, David Zurutuza, and Asier Illarramendi are all doubts for the game. CD Mirandes, on the other hand, do not have any new injury issues to worry with on Wednesday night in the semifinals.
Alguacil’s team are chasing both the Copa del Rey trophy and Champions League qualification. Real Sociedad have been brilliant and should earn progression to the Copa del Rey final.
The semifinal second leg should be a cagey, close affair. There is a lot riding on the match with Real Sociedad gaining a narrow victory. Expect under 2.5 goals and both teams not to score.
