Werder Bremen’s relegation fears to deepen against Frankfurt

Werder Bremen are experiencing a nightmare campaign in the Bundesliga. The Green and Whites are 17th place heading into Sunday evening’s home clash with unpredictable Eintracht Frankfurt.
Werder are currently three points behind Fortuna Dusseldorf, who occupy the relegation play-off spot. However, crucially the home side are five points from the safety of 15th place in the German top-flight.
Werder’s recent Bundesliga form has been nothing short of awful, as the Green and Whites have lost nine of their last ten games in the German top-flight. Last time out in the Bundesliga they suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Dortmund.
The defeat against BVB saw Werder concede at least two goals for the fifth straight game in the Bundesliga. To make matters worse they have also failed to score in their last four league matches.
Florian Kohfeldt’s team have now also failed to win in nine home matches in the German top-flight, including losing their last six matches on home soil. Unsurprisingly considering their recent record, but Werder have had problems at both ends of the pitch on home soil.
They have failed to score in five home matches in the league while conceding at least two goals in their previous four games.
Eintracht Frankfurt have enjoyed an inconsistent Bundesliga campaign. The visitors are currently in the limbo of 11th in the table, unlikely to challenge for the European spots, while not likely to be sucked into the fight for survival either.
Back-to-back defeats against Dortmund and Union Berlin have dented the visitor’s chances of making a late challenge for a European spot this season. The fact that Frankfurt have suffered six defeats in their last eight away games has not helped their cause either.
