Bayer Leverkusen ready to eliminate Porto
3723

Porto have work to do in order to qualify for the last sixteen of the Europa League, but Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to hold onto their lead when they visit the Estadio do Dragao on Thursday.

The German side head into the second leg of their Round of 32 clash with a 2-1 advantage from the first leg at BayArena.

Lucas Alario put Leverkusen ahead before Kai Havertz made it 2-0 from the penalty spot just before the hour mark. However, Luis Diaz pulled a goal back to give Porto hope.

Bayer dominated the first leg and that was reflected in the statistics. The hosts enjoyed 66% of the possession and also notched up a total of 19 shots.

Porto secured a nervy 1-0 win over relegation strugglers Portimonense on Sunday. Alex Telles eventually broke the deadlock on 87 minutes – handing Porto their fifth straight league win.

Sergio Conceicao’s side are now second in the Primeira Liga – one point behind league leaders Benfica and a whopping 16 points ahead of third-place Braga.

Porto have only lost two of their 22 league games this term and have conceded just 15 goals in the league in 2019/20.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen are on an eye-catching run on their own. The German outfit have won five of their last six league games and seven of their previous eight in all competitions.

Peter Bosz’s side cemented fifth place in the Bundesliga table with 2-0 victory over Augsburg last weekend, with Moussa Diaby and Nadiem Amiri both getting on the scoresheet.

Leverkusen are unbeaten in eight of their last nine Europa League clashes and will come into the second leg full of confidence.

On the other hand, Porto have conceded two or more goals in four of their last six games in this competition, so they are likely to find it difficult to stop Bayer scoring on Thursday.

Porto have no fresh injury concerns coming into the second leg. Top scorer Tiquinho Soares has netted six goals in the last eight league appearances, so he’ll be eager to add to his tally.

As for Bayer Leverkusen, forward Kevin Volland will miss the second leg through injury. But Bosz has a fully fit squad to choose from other than that.

Bayer have been scoring plenty of goals lately, while Porto’s recent defensive record is poor. For that reason, Leverkusen are expected to win on Thursday.

Forebet predicts that Bayer Leverkusen will score over 2.5 goals on their way to victory.
