Wigan can grab point against Millwall
Wigan Athletic vs Millwall - 22/02/2020
1530
Wigan Athletic drew their second match on the trot in the Championship last weekend with a 2-2 draw away from home at Cardiff City which has kept third from bottom Wigan in touch with the teams above them.
The Latics have suffered just 12 defeat out of their last 5 matches overall in the Championship which was a 2-1 defeat at home to Preston North End but back-to-back wins over Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 and a 1-0 win at Leeds United along with a 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough shows Wigan have improved of late.
Although they sit third from bottom in the Championship, Wigan are just 3 points adrift of fourth from bottom club, Stoke City, ahead of this weekend’s action in the second tier, and the hosts will be fairly confident that they can get something out of this encounter against a faltering Millwall outfit.
With just 2 defeats out of their last 7 matches on home turf at their DW Stadium, Wigan have made positive improvement in recent weeks under manager, Paul Cook, and they’re also unbeaten in their last 3 meetings at home against The Lions.
Onto Millwall, and the visitors dropped down to 10th place on the Championship ladder despite recording a much-needed 1-0 win away from home at Preston North End last Saturday which ended a dismal 4-match sequence without a win for the London club.
Just 1 win out of their last 5 matches overall in the second tier has resulted in Millwall losing valuable ground on the top six clubs and the play-off pack as they now trail 6th placed Preston by a 4-point margin.
Perhaps more important though is the fact that Millwall have won just 1 of their last 5 matches away from home which includes a 1-0 defeat at Leeds United but have picked up points in draws with Cardiff City, Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday on their travels too.
With the possibility of a draw being relatively high, it may pay to look at Wigan Athletic with the asian handicap option here, especially as Millwall have drawn 3 of their last 5 matches on the road.
Wigan’s recent improvement under Paul Cook also makes them slight favourites for the points in this encounter but the asian handicap (AH+0.5) option on the hosts looks the play here.
