Crystal Palace and Newcastle heading for stalemate
1510

Crystal Palace and Newcastle United will both be looking to end their poor run of form when they meet at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The Eagles are without a win in seven games and have lost their last three, while Newcastle have only managed to win one of their previous eight Premier League games.

Following defeats to Southampton and Sheffield United, Crystal Palace were beaten 3-1 by Everton last time out.

Striker Christian Benteke scored his first goal of the season at Goodison Park, but Roy Hodgson’s side were ultimately blown away the Toffees’ potent forward line.

Palace are the division’s lowest scorers this season with just 23 goals to their name in 2019/20. Hogdson’s men must start scoring more goal if they want to steer clear of the bottom three.

Still, Newcastle have only scored one more goal than Palace this term. The Magpies have been struggling in attack throughout the campaign and have failed to score in either of their last two league games.

After firing a blank against bottom club Norwich at the beginning of the month, Newcastle were limited to just two shots on target as Arsenal thrashed Steve Bruce’s side 4-0 last weekend.

The Magpies wasted a number of first-half chances against the Gunners and were made to pay for their wastefulness. Newcastle’s second-half capitulation saw Arsenal score four goals in the final 40 minutes.

Newcastle have been woeful on their travels this season, claiming just three away wins in the league so far. However, with Palace only managing four home wins this term, this is set to be a game low on quality.

Only one of the last six meetings between the two teams has produced over 1.5 goals and that was a 1-1 draw back in 2018. Since then, Palace and Newcastle drawn 0-0, while both sides have claimed a 1-0 victory in this fixture.

Looking at the team news, Everton loanee Cenk Tosun is set to return from injury to bolster Hodgson’s attacking options. But Palace will be without defensive duo James Tomkins and Mamadou Sakho.

Newcastle’s injury list is vast, with ten players currently sidelined. However, key midfielder Jonjo Shelvey could make a comeback this weekend.

All the signs are pointing towards a low scoring game at Selhurst Park as both teams have struggled for goals this season.

Forebet predicts that Crystal Palace and Newcastle are likely to play out a dull goalless draw.
