Brentford could edge the points over Birmingham
Birmingham City vs Brentford - 15/02/2020
2001
Birmingham City registered a third win on the trot in the Championship on Tuesday night when they stole all three points with a narrow 1-0 win away from home at Oakwell against Championship strugglers, Barnsley.
The Blues will be in confident mood as they prepare for the visit of 4th placed Brentford to St Andrews this Saturday.
It’s been a remarkable turnaround in form for Pep Clotet’s side who have now put together an impressive 6-match unbeaten run which includes wins against Luton Town, Nottingham Forest, Bristol City and Barnsley as well as picking up points in draws with Cardiff City and Middlesbrough.
One player that has made an instant impact has been the arrival of former Brentford striker, Scott Hogan, who is on loan from bitter rivals, Aston Villa, and ironically, he’s immediately won The Blues’ fans over with 3 goals from 3 matches for Birmingham.
Birmingham have seemingly recovered from their previous 4-match losing streak at St Andrews too as the hosts have drawn with Cardiff City 1-1 and they followed that up with a resilient 2-1 win over play-off hopefuls, Nottingham Forest.
Onto Brentford, and The Bees moved up into 4th place in the Championship following their 1-1 draw at home with Leeds United at Griffin Park, where the London club have suffered just 3 defeats all season to date.
Brentford’s form at Griffin Park continues to hold them in good stead in terms of staying on course for a play-off place later in the season, but results away from home have been far more inconsistent.
Overall results have seen Brentford lose just 1 of their last 7 matches overall in the Championship which was a 1-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest, but although The Bees have picked up wins on the road at Bristol City 4-0 and Hull City 5-1 in recent weeks, they possess an inconsistent looking away record of 7-2-7 24/13.
The visitors have won just 2 of their last 7 matches away from home though in the second tier but these have been in emphatic victories by beating the likes of Bristol City 4-0 and Hull City 5-1 in recent weeks on their travels, so they could cause Birmingham some problems here.
