Man City ready to bounce back against struggling West Ham
5897

Manchester City and West Ham United face off at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday for the last of the Premier League games this round after the match was postponed.

Pep Guardiola’s side come into this game on the back of consecutive defeats in all competitions. Man City were beaten 1-0 by Manchester United in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

City bossed the possession against Spurs but ultimately failed to make their domination count. Despite registering 19 shots, City came away from the game with nothing to show for their efforts.

That defeat means Guardiola’s men are now 25 points behind league leaders Liverpool and just one clear of third-place Leicester City.

Still, Man City remain the Premier League’s highest scoring team this season with 65 goals in 25 games – an average of just over 2.5 goals per game.

At the other end of the table, West Ham are sitting eighteenth – just inside the relegation zone – following a run of five games without a win.

The Hammers were on course to claim a vital victory over relegation rivals Brighton in the previous round. David Moyes’ side took a two-goal lead into half-time and were 3-1 up with 15 minutes remaining.

However, a late capitulation saw West Ham throw away their lead and eventually draw 3-3. Remarkably, the Hammers have now lost 19 points from winning positions this season.

With games against Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea just around the corner, West Ham are in serious danger of being relegated.

Man City thrashed West Ham 5-0 on the opening day of the season as Raheem Sterling netted a hat-trick. City have now won each of their last seven league games against the Hammers.

The Cityzens have also scored a total of 23 goals in their previous seven league victories against West Ham – an average of over three goals per game – while conceding just twice.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is ruled out for this game following his red card against Tottenham last time out but key defender Aymeric Laporte looks set to come back into the side.

West Ham will be without Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson through injury, while Robert Snodgrass is expected to start following his brace against Brighton.

The recent head-to-head record between these two teams doesn’t look pretty for West Ham, and given where both teams are in the table, Man City should cruise to a comfortable victory.

Forebet predicts that Man City will once again score over 2.5 goals on their way to victory. A clean sheet is also likely for the home side.
