Brighton and Watford meet for vital relegation six-pointer

In one of only two Premier League games on Saturday, Watford travel to Brighton & Hove Albion for a crucial clash at the bottom of the table.

Brighton are currently two points clear of the bottom three in fifteenth place, while Watford are nineteenth – three points behind the Seagulls.

Graham Potter’s side have been playing some attractive football recently but have only managed to win one of their previous 14 league games.

Still, a spirited comeback against fellow strugglers West Ham last time out will have filled the club with plenty of confidence.

Brighton found themselves 2-0 down at half time against the Hammers and were 3-1 down with 15 minutes remaining. But late goals from Pascal Gross and Glenn Murray saw Potter’s men snatch a vital draw.

That was Murray’s first goal of the campaign and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Brighton will need the 36-year-old to use all of his experience in the coming months, especially with fellow forward Neal Maupay enduring a goal drought.

The Hornets’ honeymoon period under Nigel Pearson appears to have come to an end. Watford went on a six-game unbeaten run following Pearson’s appointment which saw them pick up 14 points from a possible 18.

However, a goalless draw with Tottenham, followed by defeats to Aston Villa and Everton, means Watford are now back in the bottom three.

The nature of Watford’s last two defeats were particularly cruel. Pearson’s side led in both games, but conceded very late goals on both occasions. The players must now bounce back in order to steer clear of the relegation zone.

Having said that, Watford’s away record has been poor this season and the Hornets have won just two of their previous 16 away matches in all competitions.

Brighton claimed a resounding 3-0 victory over Watford in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign, meaning the Seagulls have only lost one of their five meetings with Watford since returning to the top flight in 2017.

Dan Burn, Shane Duffy and Jose Izquiredo are all injured for Brighton, while Potter could go with Glenn Murray again to lead the line following his vintage performance in the previous round.

As for Watford, Ismaila Sarr is close to making a return from injury, while Pearson will be hoping that Nathaniel Chalobah is fit after being substituted last time out.

With Premier League survival on the line, neither side will want to lose this game. For that reason, this is likely to be an extremely tight encounter.

Forebet predicts that this relegation clash will end in a low-scoring draw.
