The 2018-19 DFB Pokal/German Cup winners, Eintracht Frankfurt, host last season’s runners-up RB Leipzig on Tuesday night in the third round of the cup tournament at the Commerzbank Arena.

Adi Hutter’s Eintracht Frankfurt head into the game following a draw at the weekend with Fortuna Dusseldorf, 1-1. The Eagles left it late as Timmy Chandler scored a third minute of stoppage time goal in the second half to give them a share of the spoils.

Eintracht Frankfurt are now unbeaten in three straight games post-winter break with seven points from nine. However, the German Cup will be a different beast and Hutter could rotate his side for the cup tie.

RB Leipzig also drew at the weekend to keep their Bundesliga title hopes alive. The Bulls looked dead and buried at halftime at home after Borussia Monchengladbach scored twice in the first half. RB Leipzig came back with two goals in the second half for the draw.

These teams have already played twice this season in the league with their most recent game coming on the 25th of January. Eintracht Frankfurt shocked RB Leipzig in the winter break return fixture winning 2-0 at home. Both goals came in the second half.

RB Leipzig had defeated Eintracht Frankfurt in their previous game, 2-1. Eintracht Frankfurt are unbeaten in five of eight Bundesliga matches versus RB Leipzig. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig are unbeaten in six of eight meetings with Eintracht Frankfurt in the German top flight.

Tuesday night’s cup match will be all about the squads the two managers deploy. Will Hutter and Julian Nagelsmann rotate their squads due to European and league endeavor's or will they play strong teams?

Eintracht Frankfurt have reached the third round of the German Cup three times in four seasons. Last year the Eagles were dumped out of the tournament early on as key first team players were unavailable.

It is likely that Bas Dost could get the start in attack for Eintracht Frankfurt. He has seven goals in 17 matches this season. That total includes a brace versus St. Pauli in the previous round.

Nagelsmann may be influenced to play star striker Timo Werner. However, RB Leipzig are in second place, one point back of Bayern Munich, after six weeks at the top of the table.

RB Leipzig will visit Bayern Munich next Sunday in what could be a season and title defining game for both clubs. Nagelsmann still has the likes of Patrik Schick and Yussuf Poulsen available in attack.

Tuesday night’s German Cup match should be a thriller with both teams getting on the scoresheet. Expect RB Leipzig to come away with a win, however, as the two sides combine for over 2.5 goals scored.
