Southampton unlikely to end Liverpool’s winning streak

Liverpool host Southampton at Anfield on Saturday as the Reds look to maintain their colossal lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are now 19 points clear of second-place Manchester City following their game-in-hand victory over West Ham United on Wednesday.

Liverpool remain unbeaten in the Premier League this season and have claimed an astonishing 70 points from a possible 72 in 2019/20.

The Reds also boast the best defensive record in the division and have kept eight clean sheets in their previous nine league games.

The Merseysiders are on course to win their first top-flight title in 30 years. But while Liverpool are flying high at the top of the table, Southampton are also doing extremely well at the moment.

Saints got off to a dismal start this season but a remarkable turnaround has seen the south coast side climb to ninth in the table – three points behind fifth-place Manchester United.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have claimed seven wins in their previous eleven league games, propelling them clear of the relegation battle and in contention for a Europa League place.

Southampton have lost just one of their last nine games in all competitions and come into this game on the back of a convincing away victory over Crystal Palace.

Nathan Redmond and Stuart Armstrong both netted brilliant long-range strikes at Selhurst Park as Saints limited Palace to very few attempts and none on target.

It’s going to be very difficult for Southampton to get a result at Anfield, but they’ll be confident of causing an upset given their away form this season.

Saints are bottom of the home table this season with just 11 points to their name. However, they sit fifth in the away table after notching up an impressive 20 points away from St. Mary’s this season.

Still, Liverpool have 12 wins from 12 home games this term and have only conceded nine goals at Anfield.

Goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino saw Liverpool claim a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, while Danny Ings scored a late consolation goal for Saints.

Liverpool have recorded five straight victories over Southampton with an aggregate score of 13-2.

Sadio Mane looks set to watch from the sidelines again this weekend after picking up an injury against Wolves, so Divock Origi is likely to start again for Liverpool.

Southampton will be without Cedric Soares, Yan Valery and Stuart Armstrong for the trip to Anfield, but Shane Long and Jannik Vestergaard are expected to be fit.

Southampton have picked up some impressive results recently, but Liverpool look simply unbeatable at the moment.

Forebet predicts that Liverpool will keep yet another clean sheet on their way to victory on Saturday.
