Liverpool are 27 points away from winning the Premier League title. Wednesday night’s match is Liverpool’s game in hand after the original game between the two clubs was postponed due to the Champions League winners competing in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Reds could stretch their Premier League lead over Manchester City to 19 points. After Liverpool’s 2-2 draw in the FA Cup fourth round versus Shrewsbury Town on Sunday, a game in which the Reds conceded twice in the second half, West Ham will feel confident of getting points at home.
David Moyes as collected just four points from 12 possible since taking over the Hammers. All four points have come at home. West Ham are level on points with Aston Villa and Bournemouth in the race for Premier League survival.
The Hammers sit in 17th place courtesy of goal difference. Any points at this stage will do for Moyes and company as relegation is a strong possibility despite the large sums of transfer money West Ham have spent in recent seasons.
Although Moyes has led West Ham to four points from their last six at the London Stadium, they have the worst home points total in the division with 11. West Ham have conceded 20 goals at home.
Liverpool will be without forward Sadio Mane after he tweaked his hamstring versus Wolverhampton Wanderers a week ago. Adam Lallana could return from illness to play a part.
Joel Matip, Fabinho, and Dejan Lovren all returned in the FA Cup fourth round. However, the trio looked extremely rusty after such long layoffs with injury.
Moyes continues to have a long injury list. Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko, Ryan Fredericks, Felipe Anderson, and Lukasz Fabianski are all ruled out of the fixture due to their injuries. Midfielder Robert Snodgrass and defender Arthur Masuaku are fighting for fitness.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions versus West Ham. Four of those matches ended in wins for the Reds. Two of Liverpool’s last four away matches versus West Ham ended in victories.
The Reds have been too good for everyone this season in the division. Despite drawing with Shrewsbury Town with a heavily rotated side, expect a Liverpool win and over 2.5 goals scored. West Ham may give Liverpool an early scare, but the visitors should be far too strong.
