Bayern Munich to thrash Schalke once more
2692

Bundesliga second-place team Bayern Munich are just four points off of league leaders RB Leipzig. It hasn’t been a great season at the Allianz Arena, yet the Bundesliga title is still a possibility.

Saturday sees Bayern Munich host long-time rivals Schalke at the Allianz Arena. Bayern Munich head into the fixture winners of their last four Bundesliga matches. Hansi Flick’s team has kept back to back clean sheets outscoring opponents 6-0.

Schalke are fifth in the division under first-year manager David Wagner. The former Huddersfield Town boss has done well with the Royal Blues. Schalke are just seven points off of first-place RB Leipzig.

It is quite a gap at this point, but a big win on Saturday could improve unlikely chances of winning the league. It is far more likely that Schalke could achieve a Champions League qualification position. The Royal Blues are just outside of the top four due to goal difference currently.

Both teams are in good form. Bayern Munich have taken 12 points from their last 18 possible. Schalke, on the other hand, have obtained 11 points from 18 possible. Goalscoring is not Schalke’s strong point, however. They have only scored nine times in their last six fixtures.

Schalke are winless in their last two away matches. The defence has been shaky on the road giving up 10 goals in eight matches. The defence should get cut up by Bayern Munich’s attack on Saturday. Bayern Munich have scored a league high 28 goals at home this term.

Bayern Munich are unbeaten in their last 20 matches versus Schalke in all competitions. Schalke’s last win versus Bayern Munich came in the cup in 2011.

The two sides met in August with Bayern Munich thrashing Schalke 3-0 at the Veltins-Arena. The reigning German champions should once again get a big win over Schalke putting three goals past them.

Twelve of the last 20 matches between Bayern Munich and Schalke have seen over 2.5 goals scored. These two teams should once again combine for more than 2.5 goals.

Bayern Munich signed full-back Alvaro Odriozola on loan from Real Madrid. His arrival will allow Joshua Kimmich to play in midfield full-time. Forward Serge Gnabry could start on the bench due to an Achilles injury.

Schalke’s Benito Raman has the flu and could miss the game. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Alexander Nubel, who will join Bayern in the summer is suspended. Back-up Markus Schubert will start in net.

Bayern Munich should cut through Schalke and seal another win versus Schalke. Expect over 2.5 goals and a Bayern win.
