The weekend’s Premier League action gets underway at Vicarage Road on Saturday as Watford host Tottenham Hotspur in the early kick off.
Watford continued their outstanding form under new manager boss Nigel Pearson as they claimed a 3-0 win over Bournemouth last time out. Goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure, Troy Deeney and Roberto Pereya sealed an impressive away win for the Hornets.
After losing to Liverpool in Pearson’s first game in charge, Watford are unbeaten in their last five league games – winning four and drawing one. This run has seen Watford climb out of the relegation zone.
Pearson’s side are now seventeenth in the table – one point clear of eighteenth-place Aston Villa and eight points ahead of the Premier League’s bottom club Norwich.
On the other hand, Tottenham come into this game on the back of a three-match winless run in the league. A draw with Norwich was followed by consecutive defeats to Southampton and Liverpool.
Spurs overcame Championship side Middlesbrough in midweek to progress into the fourth round of the FA Cup. Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela got on the scoresheet as Spurs won 2-1.
Tottenham have struggled for consistency under Jose Mourinho. Spurs are yet to win back-to-back games under their new manager and have kept just one clean sheet in 14 games in all competitions.
However, the arrival of Gedson Fernandes will give the club a lift. The highly-rated midfielder has joined from Benfica on an 18-month loan deal and is likely to feature in the matchday squad this weekend.
Watford have also been active in the transfer window. Winger Ignacio Pussetto has been signed from Udinese to bolster the squad’s forward options.
The recent head-to-head record between the two teams doesn’t look pretty for Watford. The Hornets have claimed just one victory in their last 17 games against Tottenham.
It’s also worth pointing out that Spurs have only failed to score two goals or more on two occasions in the last eight meetings between Watford and Tottenham.
Watford defender Daryl Janmaat is pushing for a return following a spell on the sidelines, while Christian Kabasele is likely to come back into the startling eleven after serving a suspension.
As for Spurs, Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko will now miss most of the season through injury. But first-choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is close to full fitness.
Watford have enjoyed an excellent run of late, but Tottenham should have enough quality to claim all three points on Saturday.
Forebet predicts that Spurs will score over 2.5 goals on their way to victory. However, their poor defensive record means Watford are also likely to find the back of the net.
