We have three rearranged fixtures to be played in Ligue 1 this week with all three games taking place on Wednesday the 15th of January. One of these sees Nîmes take on Stade Rennes at the Stade des Costières.

This match is significant for both teams as the hosts need a win in order to try and improve their chances of moving out of the relegation zone while the visitors are pushing for Champions League qualification.

Nîmes come into this match having defeated Reims 2-0 at home on the weekend to record their second successive victory in all competitions. The previous win came via a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw at Tours in the Coupe de France on the previous weekend. However, those are their only 2 victories in their last 10 matches in all competitions.

In fact, Nîmes have won only 3 of their last 16 games in all competitions, which is a poor record. Nîmes have lost 4 of their last 5 Ligue 1 matches and have won only one of their last 12 in the league. Home form shows just a single victory from their previous 6 attempts in the league and they have lost 3 of those 6 games.

Trends show Nîmes have conceded at least 1 goal in 5 of their last 6 home Ligue 1 matches but have scored themselves in 15 of their last 18 home league games.

Stade Rennes were hoping to close the gap on Marseille as they played them at home on the weekend but lost the game 1-0. That means any realistic chance they have of finishing above their current position of 3rd may have gone but they have this game in hand to try and reduce the deficit to 5 points.

The defeat against Marseille was their first in 3 games in all competitions. They previously defeated Bordeaux 1-0 at home in the league and Amiens SC at home in the Coupe de France via a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw. Ligue 1 form shows Stade Rennes have won 5 of their last 6 matches including away victories at Metz and Lyon, the latter of which was an excellent result.

Interestingly, Stade Rennes have been involved in many games with few goals recently. 4 of their last 5 games have seen just a single goal scored but both teams have scored in 3 of their last 5 away league matches.

Team news and Nîmes are likely to be without Clement Depres who is recovering from a cruciate ligament injury. Every other player should be fit and available.

The same cannot be said for Stade Rennes who are definitely without the injured Jonas Martin. They also have doubts over the fitness of Clément Grenier, Jakob Johansson and Metehan Güclü.

Despite being at opposite ends of the league table, this has the makings of being a close game. Expect to see Nîmes find the back of the net but Stade Rennes could outscore them to come away with a 2-1 victory.
