Chelsea set to continue impressive away form at Brighton

Brighton & Hove Albion welcome Chelsea to the Amex Stadium in the Premier League’s early kick-off on New Year’s Day.

Graham Potter’s side come into this game on the back of a convincing 2-0 win over Bournemouth, while the Blues came from behind to beat Arsenal in their previous game.

Chelsea are now four-points ahead of fifth-place Manchester United, while Brighton are five points clear of the relegation zone.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh opened the scoring for the Seagulls against Bournemouth with his first-ever Premier League goal.

Brighton dominated large spells of the game against the Cherries, before Aaron Mooy capped off his man-of-the-match performance with a goal that sealed the win.

Back-to-back defeats to Sheffield United and Tottenham had seen Brighton slip down the table, but Potter’s men managed to claim a valuable three points following a winless run of four games.

Frank Lampard will also be very happy with the way his team battled to overcome Arsenal at the Emirates.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave the home side the lead, but two goals in the space of four minutes turned the game on its head late on.

Jorginho scored on 83 minutes, before Tammy Abraham’s 87th minute striker saw Chelsea claim their first comeback win of the campaign.

Interestingly, Chelsea have picked up the majority of their points on the road this season. 21 of the Blues’ 35 points have come away from Stamford Bridge in 2019/20.

This tally puts Chelsea second in the away table, while 11 teams have claimed more home points than Lampard’s side in the league this season.

By contrast, Brighton are far stronger at home. The Seagulls have picked up one more home point than Chelsea this term, but they sit sixteenth in the away standings.

Brighton have only beaten Chelsea on one previous occasion, with the Seagull’s sole victory coming all the way back in a 1993 FA Cup tie.

The Blues have claimed 11 consecutive victories in this fixture, and most recently recorded a 2-0 win earlier in the season.

Brighton have no fresh injury concerns with Jose Izquierdo and Solly March both close to making a return.

Marcos Alonso and Christian Pulisic could come in for Chelsea, as Lampard looks to freshen up his team during this busy period.

Given Chelsea’s impressive away record in the league this season, the Blues are expected claim all three points on New Year’s Day.

Forebet predicts that Chelsea will keep a clean sheet on their way to victory.
