Blackburn look to have edge over Birmingham

Blackburn Rovers were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home by Wigan Athletic on Monday night in the Championship but although Rovers couldn’t quite grab all three points, this result nevertheless extended their unbeaten run in the second tier to 7 matches.

On Boxing Day, Blackburn will play host to a struggling Birmingham City outfit once again on home turf at their Ewood Park ground and having put together an impressive 7-match unbeaten sequence at home in the Championship too, Blackburn will be in confident mood that they can add to their points tally here.

This impressive sequence of results at home for Rovers include winning four on the trot with victories over Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Brentford and Derby County, while also picking up points in draws with Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic.

In addition, Blackburn Rovers are unbeaten in their last four meetings at home against Birmingham City and Tony Mowbray’s men will no doubt be keen to break into the play-off pack over this festive period.

Having lost their last 3 league matches on the trot in the Championship and tough fixtures coming up in the shape of Blackburn Rovers (away) and Leeds United (at home), it looks unlikely that it’ll be much of a festive period for visitors, Birmingham City, as they make their way to Ewood Park looking to avoid a fourth defeat on the trot.

Recent losses to QPR and West Brom (both at St Andrews) along with last weekend’s heavy 3-0 defeat away from home at Hull City have certainly dampened Birmingham’s festive cheer, leaving The Blues in a disappointing 15th place in the Championship.

Results away from home have been poor this season too as the west midlands club have managed to pick up just 3 away wins out of their 12 matches on their travels so far in this campaign, and the bigger picture paints an even gloomier outlook.

Birmingham have registered just 4 away wins out of their last 18 matches on the road in the Championship which includes failing to score in 8 of these, as well as keeping just 3 clean sheets in the process during this poor stretch of results on their travels.

Blackburn Rovers therefore look to have the edge over their visitors here on Boxing Day and look set to take the points here.
