Bristol City could nick the points at Charlton
Charlton Athletic vs Bristol City - 26/12/2019
2395
Charlton Athletic are in desperate need of some festive cheer as The Addicks have steadily slid down the Championship league table to a disappointing 18th place following a miserable 11-match sequence without a win in the second tier.
This alarming downturn in results and form have seen Charlton Athletic suffer 7 defeats out of these 11 matches and has brought about a worrying decline in confidence as Lee Bowyer’s men now sit just 6 points above the relegation zone ahead of this busy Christmas and New Year schedule.
Having returned to the Championship following promotion from League One at the end of last season, Charlton and Lee Bowyer were taking the plaudits after putting together a 6-match unbeaten start to this season which included 4 wins and 2 draws.

Wins against Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City, Brentford and Reading promised much in the early stages of the season, but Charlton’s form has since nose-dived and the hosts are without a home win from their last 5 matches at The Valley, losing 3 of these 5 matches to Preston North End, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town.
Onto Bristol City, and the visitors have also suffered a sudden downturn in results which has seen the west country club drop out of the early play-off positions and down to 9th place in the Championship following 3 defeats on the trot in recent weeks.
Losses to Millwall and Blackburn Rovers, both on home turf at Ashton Gate, along with last weekend’s 1-0 defeat away at Sheffield Wednesday mean that The Robins head into the festive period on 3 defeats on the trot, so they’ll be keen to make up some valuable lost ground starting at Charlton on Boxing Day.
With the pressure building steadily on Charlton and their manager, Lee Bowyer, for the need to start getting results particularly at home, this away trip might suit Bristol City, and although they’ve recently lost at West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday, it should be noted that these two sides sit in the top three of the Championship.
Recent wins however at Cardiff City 1-0 and 2-1 at Craven Cottage against Fulham prove that Bristol City are still capable of gaining results on the road and are still a dangerous outfit on their travels.
Bristol City have lost just 3 of their last 14 matches on the road in the Championship and look set for further success at struggling Charlton on Boxing Day.
