Leicester City Continue Pursuit of Liverpool at Villa Park

Leicester City Continue Pursuit of Liverpool at Villa Park

Following a busy week of Premier League action there are 4 games to be played on Sunday afternoon this weekend, one of which takes place at Villa Park. The hosts, Aston Villa, meet Leicester City in a match which will have an impact at both ends of the Premier League table.

Aston Villa need to win in order to move clear of the relegation zone whereas Leicester City are aiming to maintain their pursuit of Liverpool at the top.

Aston Villa faced a difficult trip to Chelsea on Wednesday night and fell behind in the first half. They managed to score an equaliser in the second half but could not hold on for a point and eventually lost the match 2-1. That result means Aston Villa have won only one of their last 6 Premier League games.

The victory came at home against Newcastle United and since that win, Aston Villa have faced two difficult away games at Manchester United and Chelsea, picking up a point in the former.

Home form makes much better reading than away form for Aston Villa and they have won 3, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 6 home Premier League matches. Two of those 3 victories have come in their 3 most recent home games against Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United. Trends show both teams have scored in 3 of Aston villa's last 4 home league games and they have seen over 2.5 goals in the same number of matches.

Leicester City were made to work hard in their home match against Watford on Wednesday night but scored 2 goals in the second half to win the match 2-0. In what was expected to be a fairly straight forward game, Leicester City failed to make the breakthrough in the first 45 minutes but a penalty in the second half broke the deadlock.

That result means Leicester City have won each of that last 8 matches in all competitions. Seven of those 8 victories have come in the Premier League with 3 of the last 4 being at home. Away form shows Leicester City have won each of their last 3 Premier League games, with the wins coming at Southampton, Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion.

Leicester City have managed to keep a clean sheet in all 3 of those games and scored 2 or more goals, including 9 goals at Southampton.

Team news and Aston Villa are still without the injured duo of Jed Steer and Keinan Davis. Anwar El-Ghazi is a doubt due to a knee injury.

Leicester City make the short trip to Villa Park with doubts over the inclusion of Demarai Gray. Matthew James is back in training following an Achilles tendon injury.

This should be a very entertaining game with both teams capable of scoring goals. However, Leicester City have shown themselves to be stronger in defence than the hosts and should come away with maximum points.
