Leicester heading for familiar victory over struggling Watford

High-flying Leicester City welcome lowly Watford to the King Power Stadium on Wednesday night. The Foxes are currently 2nd in the Premier League standings, while Watford are three points adrift at the bottom of the table.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are on a remarkable run which has seen them win their last six league games and their latest victim was Everton. Leicester had to come from behind to beat the Toffees – demonstrating their fighting spirit.

Richarlison put Everton in front on Sunday, but second-half goals from Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho turned the game around for Leicester. That was Vardy’s thirteenth league goal in fourteen games this season and the in-form striker has scored in each of his last six top-flight appearances.

Only Manchester City have scored more goals than Leicester in the Premier League in 2019/20. But thanks to the Foxes’ unrivalled defensive record, Rodgers’ side boast the best goal difference in the division. Leicester have only conceded nine goals so far this term.

In contrast, Watford are enduring a wretched campaign. The Hornets have managed to win just one of their fourteen league games and are already searching for the third manager of the season.

Javi Gracia began the season in charge, but the Spaniard was sacked following a dismal start to the season. Quique Sanchez Flores came in to try and rescue the club, but he was recently fired after less than three months in charge.

Flores’ sacking came after Watford’s disappointing defeat to fellow-strugglers Southampton. Ismaila Sarr put the Hornets ahead at St. Mary’s, but Saints rallied in the second half and eventually inflicted an eighth defeat of the season on Watford.

The league’s bottom side must turn things around quickly, otherwise they will be heading back to the Championship sooner rather than later.

Brendan Rodgers has no fresh injury worries heading into the midweek fixtures. Leicester’s settled starting eleven has been key to their success this season, so the Foxes’ boss is likely to name an unchanged side.

Manager-less Watford will be hoping that Tom Cleverly and Craig Dawson will be fit to face Leicester following injury layoffs. Danny Welbeck, Sebastian Prodl and Daryl Janmaat remain long-term absentees.

Given the contrasting form of the two teams, it’s difficult to envisage anything other than a Leicester win on Wednesday.

Forebet predicts the Foxes will claim a comfortable victory over a demoralised Watford side.
