Newcastle United host Bournemouth on Saturday. A win for the Magpies would see Steve Bruce’s side move to within a point of the Cherries, while Bournemouth will be looking to record back-to-back league victories for the second time this season.

Successive goalless draws with Norwich and Watford prior to the win over Man Utd had halted Bournemouth’s promising start to the season. Still, the Cherries bounced back last weekend and will be eager to push up the table.
Bournemouth currently sit 7th with 16 points to their name. They have lost just three of their 11 Premier League games this season. Newcastle’s five defeats mean they are down in 15th, but there is only a four-point gap between the two teams.
Newcastle put three past West Ham last weekend. Two late goals for the Hammers made it a nervy finish for Newcastle, but the Magpies held on to claim a vital three points.
That was Newcastle’s second win in four games and they have now lost just once in their last five league outings. Following a shaky start to the 2019/20 campaign, Newcastle’s performances are beginning to improve.
With that being said, Newcastle must score more goals if they are to avoid a relegation battle this season. Only bottom-place Watford have scored fewer goals in the division, so Steve Bruce may be tempted to dip into the loan market when the January transfer window comes around.
Jonjo Shelvey is the only player to have scored more than one goal for the club this term. Brazilian striker Joelinton has scored just once in 11 appearances since his move from Hoffenheim.
Callum Wilson is Bournemouth’s top-scorer with five goals so far this season. Harry Wilson and Joshua King both have three goals to their name, while King has also registered two assists.
Bournemouth and Newcastle have faced each other 11 times over the years and the head-to-head record is fairly evenly matched. The Cherries have claimed five wins in this fixture, while Newcastle have won four.
Two of the last three meetings between the teams have ended in a draw, and a tie appears to be the most likely outcome this time around.
