Cardiff to return to winning ways against Birmingham
1934

Cardiff City were handed a disappointing 1-0 defeat away at bitter local rivals, Swansea City, last weekend in the Championship which extended their run without a win in the second tier to 4 matches.

Recent defeats at West Brom 4-2 and the aforementioned 1-0 loss at Swansea City along with draws against Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall have left The Bluebirds in a disappointing 14th place on the Championship ladder, but they’ll no doubt be hoping they can maintain their strong form at home on Saturday.

Despite failing to win any of their 8 away matches so far this season, Cardiff City still remain unbeaten at their Cardiff City Stadium having registered 4 wins and 2 draws and they’re the only other side other than the top two clubs, West Brom and Preston North End, that have yet to taste defeat at home in the division.

Indeed, Cardiff have suffered just 1 defeat out of their last 16 matches at home in the second tier, and this season they’ve already seen off Luton Town, Huddersfield Town, Middlesbrough and QPR.

Onto Birmingham City, and the visitors grabbed a third win in four matches last Saturday when they recorded a 2-1 win over Luton Town at St Andrews which has lifted The Blues up into the top half of the Championship in 11th place prior to this weekend’s action.

Recent wins against Middlesbrough, Blackburn Rovers and Luton Town ended a run of 3 straight defeats, but it’s worth mentioning that Birmingham’s recent successes have been mostly achieved on home turf at St Andrews.

5 of Birmingham’s 7 league wins in the Championship to date have been at home while on the road, The Blues have really struggled for results as they’ve managed just 2 wins out of their 7 away matches so far this season.

The west midlands club have also lost their last 3 away from home on the trot with defeats at Derby County, Wigan Athletic and Leeds United, while the bigger picture shows that Birmingham have managed to register just 3 away wins out of their last 13 matches on their travels.

This poor sequence of results on the road could play nicely into Cardiff City’s hands here on Saturday as The Bluebirds look to return to winning ways under manager, Neil Warnock.
