Dortmund set for entertaining cup clash against Monchengladbach

On Wednesday night, Dortmund and Monchengladbach go head-to-head at the Signal Iduna Park in the second round of the DFB Pokal. The clash is the most high-profile of the round in the competition.

Both sides head into this clash in inconsistent recent form in all competitions. However, Monchengladbach have still maintained top spot in the German Bundesliga despite their unconvincing recent form.

Dortmund have slipped to fifth-place, although BVB are still just three points behind Wednesday’s visitors.

This game may have an effect on the Bundesliga table, but could still prove pivotal to both teams’ seasons. A Dortmund win could lift spirits, while also deflating the positive atmosphere built up at Gladbach. An away win would just heap the pressure on Lucien Favre and his players.

The fact that they have lost their last eight meetings with Dortmund also does not bode well for an away victory. Their record in this competition is also patchy in recent years.
