Atletico Madrid have not been at their best of late in La Liga this season. However, Diego Simeone’s team are still just one point behind shock leaders Granada in the race for top spot in the Spanish top-flight.
A trip to Alaves on Tuesday evening gives the team from the capital another opportunity to gain another three points.
Los Rojiblancos head into their encounter with Alaves on a six-game unbeaten run in La Liga. The problem for the visitors has been that four of those six undefeated matches have finished in draws.
A 2-0 weekend defeat of Athletic Club ended a run of three straight draws in La Liga for the team from the Spanish capital.
While they may have been drawing a lot of games, their defensive displays have remained impressive, as Atletico have kept clean sheets in five of the last six outings in the Spanish top-flight.
The visitors away form in La Liga has not been great of late, as just two wins out of six games illustrates. They do however have the recent history of this fixture on their side, as Atletico have beaten Alaves in the last four meetings in all competitions, without conceding a goal.
Alaves have been the very definition of inconsistent in La Liga this season so far. The home side has picked up 11 points from their 10 outings in the Spanish top-flight while winning just two of their last nine league outings.
The home side does at least have a decent recent home record, having recorded four wins in their last six league matches on home soil. The key factor in that decent home form is a solid defensive record, as Alaves have conceded just once in their last five home league matches.
