Southampton set to struggle against Leicester
4943

Leicester City travel to St. Mary’s on Friday night to take on Southampton.

Saints ended a run of three straight league defeats last time out by claiming an important draw at Molineux.

Danny Ings scored Southampton’s only goal against Wolves, but the team had a total of 14 shots throughout the match.

This performance will have pleased manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, and he will be looking for more of the same when Leicester come to town.

The south coast side now sit just outside the relegation zone in 17th place. They have picked up eight points from nine matches and have managed just two wins in the top-flight this season.

With Manchester City not playing until Saturday, Leicester have the incentive of moving above the reigning champions and into second place if they win on Friday.

The Foxes beat Burnley 2-1 last weekend thanks to goals from Jamie Vardy and Youri Tielemans.

Leicester have won five of their nine league games, and only Liverpool and Sheffield United can boast a better defensive record this term.

Additionally, just three teams have scored more goals than Leicester in the Premier League, so the team is certainly moving in the right direction under Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers’ tactics have allowed Jamie Vardy to play to his strengths. The former England striker has netted six league goals already this season, and he is thriving on the service from the team’s creative midfielders.

Leicester and Southampton have faced each other on a regular basis in the English top-flight since 2014/15.

Southampton have won three of the last ten meetings, while Leicester have the upper hand in this fixture with four wins in that time.

Three of the last ten matches between the two teams have ended in a draw, but the gulf in quality between the sides currently means Leicester are the firm favourites this time around,.

Saints were without full-back Cedric and forward Moussa Djenepo for their trip to face Wolves last weekend. Both players are continuing their recoveries from injury, so it’s unclear whether they will feature on Friday.

Leicester have no fresh injury worries heading into this match, so we could see Brendan Rodgers name the same starting line-up as he fielded against Burnley.

Southampton have the home advantage, but the Foxes should have too much firepower for the Saints.

Forebet predicts that both teams will score, but Leicester will come out on top.
