Bordeaux are just six points off of Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain and will hope to reel in the Parisians this weekend. Coach Paulo Sousa is aiming at the very least, that the Girondins do not fall any further behind PSG.
Saint-Etienne are all the way down in 13th position in the Ligue One table. However, the green and white are just two points off of fourth place Bordeaux. Saint-Etienne could move above their opponents Sunday with a victory. That will be easier said than done, however.
Sousa had a torrid time after taking over a Bordeaux last term. The club ended the season in 14th place and their start to this season flies in the face of that finish.
Girondins Bordeaux have collected 15 points from 27 possible. They are unbeaten in five of their last six games and will feel confident going into the weekend.
Saint-Etienne have every right to feel confident of winning as well. They have won back to back games in the league with wins over Nimes and Lyon. Those victories ended a four-match winless run in Ligue One and now give the green and white the chance to move up the table.
Bordeaux have taken five points from 12 possible at home. The Matmut Atlantique Stadium has not been a fortress to Bordeaux but they have lost just once in four games.
Saint-Étienne have collected just two victories on their travels. The team has six points from 15 possible. Saint-Etienne have only scored four goals away from home while conceding nine.
Bordeaux have had success playing against Saint-Etienne in recent seasons. The Girondins have won four straight matches at home against Saint-Etienne in all competitions. Last season, Bordeaux won 3-2 at home thanks to a 90th-minute goal from Pablo.
Games between Bordeaux and Saint-Etienne have been high scoring with their last eight in all competitions ending with over 2.5 goals scored. Six of those eight matches ended with both teams scoring goals.
Bordeaux goalscorers Jimmy Briand and Nicolas de Preville are in good form for the team with three goals apiece. Saint-Etienne, on the other hand, manage 0.9 goals per match with Romain Hamouma leading the team with three strikes.
Saint-Etienne have failed to win at Bordeaux’s Matmut Atlantique Stadium in their last three tries. Sunday’s match will end in the same result as Bordeaux pick up a fourth straight win over Saint-Etienne at home.
Expect over 2.5 goals scored with both teams finding the back of the net. Bordeaux will pick up the win and strengthen their Champions League bid.
