Denmark to top Switzerland in Euro 2020 qualifying
Denmark vs Switzerland - 12/10/2019

Denmark host Switzerland in a crunch Euro 2020 qualifying match on Saturday in Copenhagen. Denmark are one point ahead of Switzerland in Group D qualifying and could move ahead of group leaders Ireland with a victory.
Switzerland are just one point behind the Danish and dropped points have been the story of their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign. The two European rivals met in March with the match ending 3-3 after Switzerland threw away a three-goal second-half lead.
Manager Vladimir Petkovic’s team hasn’t improved in keeping second-half leads since allowing Denmark to score three times in March. The Swiss conceded a late goal to Ireland during the September international break allowing the Irish to steal a point.
The good news for Petkovic is Switzerland are already assured of a Euro 2020 playoff spot at the very least. The Swiss reached the semifinals of the UEFA Nations League allowing them to qualify for the playoffs.
Neither Denmark nor Switzerland have lost in Group D qualifying. The Danes have collected nine points from 15 possible while Switzerland have obtained eight points from four matches played.
Denmark manager Age Hareide will feel confident his team can continue their unbeaten ways at home. Denmark have scored 15 goals in qualifying while conceding just five times.
However, Hareide’s biggest issue is winning games. Denmark maybe undefeated in Euro 2020 qualifying, but they have won just twice in five attempts. In total, Denmark have played six games in 2019 with four finishing in draws.
Denmark’s only wins came against Georgia and Gibraltar. The competition was poor in both matches as Denmark outscored their opponents 11-1.
Switzerland have also had difficulty turning draws into wins. Due to their UEFA Nations League matches, Switzerland have played one fewer match to Denmark. Like the Danes, Switzerland’s only qualifying group wins came against Georgia and Gibraltar.
On paper, both Denmark and Switzerland are evenly matched. Playing at home in Copenhagen, however, the Danes should have a slight edge over their opponents.
Denmark have posted a 3W-6D-2L record against Switzerland. The two sides do have a penchant to draw matches, but playing in Copenhagen should see Denmark past Switzerland.
Christian Eriksen goes into the match with three goals in qualifying. Yes, Eriksen is struggling at Tottenham Hotspur, but should put that behind him on Saturday. The Danes will get a win over Switzerland as both teams score.
Match No. 2 between the sides in Group D won’t be as high scoring as the first, but there will be over 2.5 goals as Denmark win.
