Crystal Palace’s scoring struggles to continue against West Ham
2474

West Ham host Crystal Palace on Saturday aiming to break into the Premier League’s top four. Both teams have surprised Premier League onlookers with results in the early stages. Can one of the two sides continue their good form?

The Hammers start the weekend in fifth place in the league and just four points off of second-place Manchester City. Manuel Pellegrini has turned West Ham into a difficult team to defeat as they are unbeaten in six straight league matches.

Since West Ham lost to Manchester City on opening day 5-0, the Hammers have outscored opponents 10-4. The Hammers have been brilliant but are coming off of a 2-2 draw away to Bournemouth.

Crystal Palace have collected 11 points from 27 possible. They sit in ninth place due to goal difference and a victory could send them into the top five depending on results elsewhere.

Roy Hodgson’s biggest issue at Selhurst Park has been a serious lack of scoring. Crystal Palace have scored just six times across seven Premier League games.

It is Crystal Palace’s defence that has kept them in matches and helped them pick up points. Last weekend, the Eagles won 2-0 against Norwich City.

Crystal Palace have secured just three points from nine possible on their travels. However, that one win did come at Old Trafford against Manchester United. Just two of Crystal Palace’s seven Premier League matches this season have ended in over 2.5 goals scored.

Pellegrini has a major injury issue on his hands at West Ham. Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski suffered a hip muscle injury last weekend while taking a goal kick. He will be out three months.

West Ham now turn to back-up goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez. He joined the club on a free transfer last summer after West Ham allowed Adrian to leave following his contract ending.

The Hammers are undefeated in their last eight matches against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. West Ham defeated Crystal Palace 3-2 last season at the London Stadium before drawing 1-1 at Selhurst Park later in the term.

West Ham strikers Sebastien Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko have combined to score six goals. The duo has tallied 60% of West Ham’s scoring and could bully Crystal Palace’s defence on Saturday.

Crystal Palace’s poor goalscoring record will doom them on Saturday at the London Stadium. West Ham have played well against Crystal Palace and collected points in recent seasons.

Seven of the last 10 matches between West Ham and Crystal Palace saw over 2.5 goals scored. West Ham will get another victory against Crystal Palace with over 2.5 goals scored.
