Bristol City to edge Reading at Ashton Gate
Bristol City vs Reading - 05/10/2019

Despite being held to a third draw on the trot in midweek away at Brentford in a 1-1 stalemate, Bristol City extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to 9 matches overall, which has lifted the west country club to the fringes of the play-off pack.
Bristol City have suffered just 1 defeat all season to date which came in the shape of a 3-1 loss at home to Leeds United on the opening day of the new season but since that early scare, Lee Johnson’s side have gone from strength to strength and have made themselves a very hard team to beat.
The host’s last 9 matches include 4 wins over QPR, Derby County, Hull City and Stoke City, while 5 draws may be considered as excessive and these stalemates have perhaps held back The Robins from already occupying a top six spot.
Since the opening home loss to Leeds United, home form has been steadied by a 2-0 win against QPR and back-to-back draws with Middlesbrough and Swansea City, while forwards Weimann (4 goals) and Afobe (3 goals) look the most likely for the hosts here.
Onto Reading and there was perhaps a feeling of being quietly confident of a more positive campaign in this season’s Championship under Portuguese manager, Jose Gomes, who had steered The Royals to safety at the end of last season as his side suffered just 4 defeats from their last 18 league matches of last term.
However, although the visitors bounced back from two early defeats on the trot to Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City by setting the record straight with wins against two of the relegated clubs from the Premier League, Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town, Reading have since reverted to type.
The Royals have lost 4 of their last 5 matches in the Championship with defeats to Charlton Athletic, Middlesbrough, Blackburn Rovers and Fulham, the latter being a heavy 4-1 loss on home turf at their Madejski Stadium during the week.
Having also recorded just 1 away win out of their last 10 matches on their travels, a trip to the west country to face Bristol City looks a tough proposition for the Berkshire outfit.
Reading could come away empty-handed again on Saturday afternoon.
