Dortmund to get European campaign back on track in Prague
3660

German giants Dortmund seem to have hit a bump in the road of late after a promising start to their season. BVB’s recent results have not been terrible by any means, but three straight draws in all competitions have rather halted their momentum of late.

Lucian Favre’s team will be looking to get back to winning ways on Wednesday evening when they visit Slavia Prague on matchday two of the Champions League.

The group is finely poised, with all four teams on a point after both matches on gameweek one finished in draws. Dortmund drew 0-0 with Champions League favourites Barcelona at Signal Iduna Park, while Slavia Prague picked up an impressive 1-1 draw at in-form Italian outfit Inter.

Dortmund head into this clash with a poor recent record in Europe’s elite competition, having recorded just one win in their last six matches in the Champions League. BVB have also failed to win in their last three games in Europe’s biggest competition.

One out of character statistic from Dortmund’s recent Champions League outings is that they have failed to score in five of their last six outings. With forwards Jadon Sancho and Paco Alcacer in such good form that is a statistic that will surely improve in Prague.

Slavia Prague are certainly in better form than the visitors heading into this clash. The team from the Czech capital are currently top of their domestic league after 11 matches.

The draw against Inter in gameweek one shows that they are certainly not pushovers and can make life difficult for more high-profile teams.

Slavia have a mixed recent record in the Champions League, even with that highly respectable draw against Inter last time out. They are unbeaten in three outings but have won just twice in eight matches. A game against Dortmund is unlikely to improve that poor record.

In fact, Forebet predicts that Dortmund will emerge from this potentially tricky away game with a victory in a low-scoring encounter.
