Must Win Game for Arsenal

Must Win Game for Arsenal
2743

There are four Premier League games on Sunday this weekend following the Thursday night Europa League action.  One of those matches involves Arsenal, who travelled to Germany in mid-week and they will play host to Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal start the weekend in 7th place with 8 points from five games played. The Gunners will be hoping to move into the top four with a win.  Aston Villa are down in 17th place with 4 points to their name and will be eager to cause an upset and move away from the relegation zone.

Arsenal came away from Eintracht Frankfurt with an excellent 3-0 win in the Europa League on Thursday night.  It was the perfect response to the disappointing 2-2 draw at Watford last weekend in the Premier League.  Despite being 2-0 up and seemingly cruising in that game some poor defending cost Arsenal maximum points.

Trends show Arsenal have failed to win any of their last three Premier League matches.  They lost 3-1 at Liverpool and followed that with a 2-2 draw at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.

Overall home form is good and Arsenal have become difficult to beat at the Emirates Stadium.  The Gunners have lost only three of the last thirty-one games played in all competitions at home and have won nine of the last twelve.

Arsenal have scored two or more goals in twelve of their last thirteen home games.

Aston Villa were held to a 0-0 draw at home by West Ham United last week in a match they were hoping to win. That result means Aston Villa have won just one of their five Premier League games this season.  The win came in the third match of the season at home against Everton and it was a 2-0 victory.

Since then, Aston Villa have lost 1-0 at Crystal Palace and been held to a 0-0 draw at home by West Ham United.

Trends show Aston Villa have lost each of their two away Premier League games this season.  Going back to when they were last in the Premier League (2016) Aston Villa have lost each of their last nine away Premier League matches and have failed to win in their last twenty.

Team news and Arsenal will be without striker Alexandre Lacazette who has an ankle injury.  They also have doubts over Konstantinos Mavropanos, Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney.

Aston Villa have doubts over three players with James Chester, Matthew Targett and Jonathan Kodjia aiming to recover from injury.  Every other player should be fit and available.

This is a game Arsenal must win if they want to challenge for the top four this season.  Even with a shaky defence, they should have the fire power to see off Aston Villa, scoring 2 or more goals in the process.
