After a poor start to the season, Schalke are suddenly in form. The team from Gelsenkirchen could temporarily move to joint-top of the table in the Bundesliga with a home win over Mainz on Friday night.

Schalke kicked-off their league campaign with a draw against Monchengladbach and a home defeat against Bayern Munich. However, David Wagner’s team have since recorded a 3-0 home win over Hertha Berlin and last time out hammered new boys Paderborn 5-1 on their own patch.

The Royal Blues look to be in good form in front of goals, having scored eight goals in their last two Bundesliga matches. The attacking displays are encouraging considering the home side had failed to score in four of their previous five league outings.

Schalke’s home form is a real concern of late, as the 3-0 win over Hertha ended a nine-game run without a home victory. A lack of goals is one of the home sides main problems at the Veltins Arena, failing to score in seven of their last ten league matches on home soil.

Incredibly considering their poor start to their campaign, Schalke can move level on points with league leaders RB Leipzig with maximum points in this clash.

Like Schalke, Mainz made a poor start to their Bundesliga campaign. In fact, the visitors suffered three straight league games at the beginning of the season. However, a 2-1 home win over Hertha Berlin last time out moved Mainz up to 16th place in the table.

The visitors have a woeful recent away record in the German top-flight though, losing nine of their last ten outings.

Their defensive vulnerabilities have been exposed on their travels in the Bundesliga, as they have conceded at least two goals in nine of their last 11 matches.

Forebet predicts that Schalke will record a win big enough to move level on points and goal difference with RB Leipzig.
