Wales to kick-start qualifying campaign with a win over Azerbaijan

Wales have made a less than impressive start to qualifying for Euro 2020. The Dragons have picked up just one win from their opening three games in Group E of qualifying.
However, the visit to Cardiff of group whipping boys Azerbaijan on Friday night offers Ryan Giggs’ team the chance to pick up a much-needed win.
Group E is one of the most open sections of qualifying for Euro 2020. Wales will have believed they had a good chance of qualifying at the start of the campaign. However, back-to-back defeats against Croatia and Hungary have made qualification slightly more difficult for the home side.
All hope is not lost though, as due to the openness of the group, the Dragons are still just three points outside the automatic qualification berths. They can still comfortably qualify for Euro 2020, but they need to start winning games to achieve that objective.
A strong home record in European Championship qualifying is a big plus for the Dragons, as Wales are undefeated in eight matches on home soil while winning on six occasions. They have also kept four clean sheets in qualifying too.
Azerbaijan have sprung no surprises in the group as of yet, as they have lost all three of their qualifiers so far. The defeats are not surprising because the visitors have lost four of their last five international matches. They suffered a 5-1 home hammering against Slovakia last time out.
The visitor's record in qualifying is no less comforting, as they have failed to win in eight qualifiers while losing five straight matches. There is a major possibility that that record could get even worse on Friday night.
Since first featuring in European Championship qualifying back in 1994, Azerbaijan have never won on their travel’s in qualifiers.
