Slovenia set to hold Poland in Euro 2020 qualifying
3029
On Friday night, Slovenia and Poland go head-to-head at the Stadion Stozice in Group G of qualifying for Euro 2020.
The two teams have made contrasting starts to their qualification campaigns. The home side has picked up five points from their opening four games, while the visitors have won all their matches and currently sit top of the group.
The home side kicked off their qualification campaign with back-to-back draws against Israel and North Macedonia. Then they suffered a 1-0 defeat in Austria before recording a 5-0 victory in Latvia last time out.
To say they have enjoyed a mixed campaign so far would be an understatement. Despite the inconsistent start to their qualification campaign, Slovenia still has a chance of qualifying for next year’s competition.
Slovenia have a poor recent record in qualifying overall, as the win over Latvia ended a five-game winless run for the home side in European Championship qualifying. Their recent games in qualifiers have also been tight and low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in eight of their last nine outings.
Poland were favourites to win the group at the start of the campaign and have not disappointed so far. Jerzy Brzeczek’s team have beaten Austria, Latvia, North Macedonia and Israel, without conceding a goal.
The visitors have been hard to defeat in qualifying for the European Championships, as they have lost just one of their last 19 matches. They have also won six of their last seven qualifiers.
Poland have won their last two away games in qualifying, but the wins came on the back of a three-game winless run on their travels in qualifiers. They have also suffered just one away defeat in ten games in qualifying.
Forebet predicts that Slovenia will hold Poland to a low-scoring draw, to end the visitors hundred per cent record in Group G.
