Belgium set to thrash San Marino in Group I
2679
San Marino host Belgium on Friday night as top play bottom in Euro 2020 qualifying Group I.
Belgium are top of the pile with four wins from four matches while San Marino sit rock bottom of the table without a single point to their name.
The Belgians have conceded just once in qualifying so far and have scored 11 goals – an average of just under 3 goals per game.
They have won their last two matches 3-0, beating Scotland and Kazakhstan at home, and are likely to add to their impressive goal tally against San Marino.
San Marino have conceded a whopping 20 goals in their four qualifying matches and have failed to score a single goal in reply.
Russia beat San Marino 9-0 in June, and the Belgian forwards will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing such a weak defence.
In fact, San Marino have won just once in 162 matches and if they were to get anything from the match against Belgium, it would surely be one of the biggest upsets in the history of European Championship qualification.
World Cup 2018 semi-finalists Belgium boast one of the strongest squads in the world and the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard are likely to run riot on Friday.
Hazard was a doubt for the squad after failing to make an appearance so far this season due to injury but the Real Madrid forward has been selected despite a distinct lack of match fitness.
The majority of San Marino’s squad are semi-professionals however they do have a select few players who belong to some lower league clubs in Italy.
The two teams have met six times previously and unsurprisingly Belgium have won every match.
Their most recent encounter came back in 2005 in a World Cup qualifying match and Belgium claimed an 8-0 victory.
The overall aggregate score line between the two teams sits at 33-3 in favour of Belgium and the visitors will be keen to add to their tally this time around.
Belgium have lost just once since the 2018 World Cup in Russia and are set to pick up another comfortable win on Friday. Their record since the World Cup stands at W8-D1-L1.
It’s difficult to imagine San Marino scoring, let along picking up a point against Belgium.
Forebet predicts a high scoring Belgium victory, which will solidify their place at the top of Group I.
