Ireland come into this match on an impressive run of form which has seen the team lose twice in their last 10 matches in all competitions.
Their last defeat came back in October 2018 when they were beaten 1-0 by Wales in the UEFA Nations League.
On the other hand, Switzerland are third in Group D but have only played two matches in the Euro Qualifiers so far.
Switzerland are also unbeaten with four points after picking up one win and one draw.
The Swiss have already been involved with plenty of goals in Group D. After beating Georgia 2-0, they then registered a 3-3 draw with Denmark.
Switzerland head into Thursday’s clash on the back of two defeats in the UEFA Nations League.
After losing 3-1 to Portugal in the semi-finals, they were then defeated by England in the third-place play-off following a penalty shoot-out.
The two teams have met each other on 16 previous occasions and Ireland have the better of the head-to-head record.
Ireland have beaten Switzerland eight times, with the Swiss managing five wins in reply. The other three matches between the two sides were drawn.
The most recent match between Ireland and Switzerland came in friendly in 2016, with Ireland claiming a 1-0 victory on that occasion.
Ireland will be without Wolves right-back Matt Doherty on Thursday as he is sidelined due to an ongoing injury.
Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy, Preston North End striker Sean Maguire and Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood are also unavailable for selection due to injury.
Ireland manager Mick McCarthy has called up Kieran O’Hara, Cyrus Christie and James Collins as replacements.
Liverpool forward Xherdan Shaqiri is unavailable for selection for Switzerland while Norwich City duo Josip Drmic and Timm Klose both miss out due to injury.
It’s set to be a tight and cagey affair as neither side will want to give anything away on Thursday night.
Switzerland will be looking to climb up the table while Ireland will want to maintain their position at the top of Group D.
Forebet predicts that the match will end as a goalless draw.
