Mallorca looking to build on the opening win against Sociedad

On Sunday afternoon, Mallorca host Real Sociedad at the Iberostar Estadi, with the visitors hoping to secure their first league win of the season.

La Liga new boys Real Mallorca got their return to the Spanish top-flight off to a perfect start by beating Eibar 2-1 in their first game of the 2019/20 campaign.

The Islanders have not been in the Spanish top-flight since 2013. Despite suffering relegation last time out in La Liga, Mallorca are four games unbeaten in the league, having recorded three wins. If they continue that sort of form then they can no doubt cement their top-flight status.

A home game with Sunday’s opponents certainly gives Mallorca the opportunity to extend that recent good run of form.

Real Sociedad began the new campaign by drawing 1-1 at Valencia. The result was a respectable one considering that Los Ches will be hoping to challenge for the Champions League spot in La Liga once again this season.

The men from San Sebastian really did experience mixed fortunes last season, especially towards the end of the campaign. A record of just four wins from their final 15 games in La Liga ruled out a challenge for the Europa League spots in the Spanish top-flight.

Poor form on the road towards the end of last season contributed heavily to the visitors less than stellar record in the Spanish top-flight of late. In fact, La Real have won just once in their last ten away games in La Liga.
