Atromitos and Legia Warsaw to play another 90-minute stalemate

Greece’s Atromitos host Polish outfit Legia Warsaw on Wednesday night in the Europa League. The group stage hopefuls played out a stalemate in the first leg. Will we see goals in the second match of the series?
Atromitos do not have a long history in European competition. The Greek side has competed six times in the last decade in the Europa League qualifying rounds. Atromitos have never made the group stage.
Legia Warsaw entered this season’s Europa League at the first qualifying round stage. After defeating Gibraltar’s Europa 3-0 on aggregate, they got past Finland’s KuPS 1-0 on aggregate.
At least one match in each of Legia Warsaw’s first two qualifying rounds ended nil-nil. Legia Warsaw have been masters of clean sheets in the Europa League keeping five thus far.
The Polish team did not play over the weekend in the Ekstraklasa. They had the opportunity to prepare for their Europa League third qualifying round second leg fixture. Meanwhile, Atromitos are yet to start the Greek Super League season.
Atromitos may have a lack of fitness heading into the second leg. They have played few competitive matches thus far compared to Legia Warsaw.
The Greek team entered the Europa League at the second qualifying round stage. They defeated Czech Republic team DAC Dunajska Streda 5-3 on aggregate. Scoring was not an issue versus DAC Dunajska Streda, however. Atromitos played to Legia Warsaw’s tactics in the first leg.
Atromitos finished fourth in the Greek Super League last term. Despite their good finish, they were still 30 points off of first place PAOK. Atromitos had the fourth best defence in Greece’s top-flight last term. They conceded a mere 28 times. However, they only scored 41 times.
The second leg will be played at Atromitos’ Peristeri Stadium. Last season, Atromitos conceded just 12 times at home with 22 scores going in at the opposite end.
Last season, Legia Warsaw went through four different managers. Somehow, they still finished second in the Erkstraklasa. Manager Aleksandar Vukovic took over the team in April and is still in charge of the side.
Vukovic was appointed manager of Legia Warsaw in August 2018 before leaving after just a couple of weeks in charge. He returned in April to see out the season.
The first leg between Atromitos and Legia Warsaw ended in a stalemate. The second is likely to do the same. Expected under 2.5 goals scored due to both teams having capable defences.
Legia Warsaw have kept clean sheets in all their Europa League matches this season. Expect both teams not to score on Wednesday night.
