Goals in store when QPR play host to Huddersfield Town

Following last season’s debacle in the Championship, QPR were delighted to register all three points on opening day in the second tier last Saturday when they recorded a 2-1 win away at dismal Stoke City.

It was also a great start for the newly installed QPR manager, Mark Warburton, who saw his tenure at the London club off to a winning start, and they now return to Loftus Road for their first home game of the new season full of confidence.

The victory at Stoke City actually became back-to-back wins for QPR as the hosts had registered a 2-1 win on the road at Sheffield Wednesday on the final day of last season, which ended a poor sequence of three defeats on the trot.

QPR ended last season’s miserable campaign in the Championship with just 1 win from their last 11 matches overall, that being a 4-0 thrashing of Swansea City at home.

Whilst it’s still too early to assess whether QPR have turned a corner or not, goals have certainly flowed in recent times as 5 of their last 6 matches in all competitions have resulted in over 2.5 goals.

Indeed, 11 of their last 15 home matches in the Championship ended up over 2.5 goals.

Onto Huddersfield Town, and the newly relegated former Premier League side suffered an early setback in their new Championship campaign last weekend when they lost 2-1 at home to last season’s play-off finalists, Derby County.

Last week’s defeat ended a decent run of 6 matches without defeat for Huddersfield Town who had enjoyed a successful pre-season, winning 4 of these 67 warm-up matches.

The Terriers endured a miserable campaign in the Premier League last season, but at least they bring a 6-match sequence without defeat on their travels into Saturday’s clash at Loftus Road against QPR.

The visitors are very capable of scoring goals on the road though at this level and with the likes of creative midfielders such as Aaron Mooy and Alex Pritchard, along with forwards Mbenza, Ahearne-Grant and Kachunga, they should cause QPR a few problems here too.

Huddersfield got off to a bad start last weekend though, but the goals market appeals here as 2 of the last 3 encounters between these two teams at Loftus Road has resulted in over 2.5 goals and we could see more goals in this encounter too.
