Ludogorets to earn a crucial first-leg win over the New Saints
1928
On Thursday evening, Ludogorets hosts the New Saints at the Ludogorets Arena in the Europa League third qualifying round first leg.
Both of these teams have already suffered elimination from the Champions League in the early stages. Ludogorets suffered a 5-3 defeat against Ferencvaros in the first qualifying round of the competition. The New Saints went one round further, eventually suffering a 3-0 aggregate loss to Danish side Kobenhavn.
Out of the two teams, Ludogorets have the better recent record in the Europa League. In fact, the home side are unbeaten in six games in the competition.
However, it must also be noted that five of those games finished in draws. The Bulgarian side eliminated Valur of Iceland in the last round of the Europa League.
The New Saints do not have a great recent record in the Europa League, winning just one of their last six matches in the competition dating back to 2011. Last season the Welsh side suffered elimination at the hands of Danish team Midtjylland at this stage of the competition.
Prior to last season, the visitors had a seven-year absence from the Europa League.
Despite dropping out of the Champions League, Ludogorets recent results have been encouraging. They are now unbeaten in five games in all competitions and will be confident of achieving a result in this clash.
The New Saints only defeats in recent months have been in that aforementioned Champions League tie with Kobenhavn. Prior to that tie, the Welsh side were 26 games unbeaten in all competitions in 90 minutes. Ludogorets are a cut above a lot of the teams that the visitors face a regular basis, though.
Ludogorets are the favourites to progress from this tie and Forebet predicts that the home side will record a victory in a high-scoring clash.
